Coorg also known as Kodagu is a most visited Hill Station in Karnataka. Coorg has full of natural beauty and a divine nature. It has dense forests, large number of coffee plantations, flowing Cauvery river from a distant place which refreshes and nurturing the flora and fauna. Coorg is famous mainly for sights, varied wildlif, world-class coffee, juicy and pulpy oranges, local chocolates and homemade wines are also a speciality here.
Places to Visit in Coorg
Temples
Omkareshwar Temple - The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built in 1820 by Lingarajendra. A water tank in this temple has fishes and that adds to the beauty of the temple.
Padi Iggutappa Temple - This temple was built 10 years before Omkareshwar temple dedicated to Lord Igguthappa. The holi festival has different colour when celebrated in this premises.
Bhangandeshwara Temple - This is a beautifully architectured temple and this place is a 3 river joining together triveni sangam of the 3 rivers namely - Sujyoti, Cauvery and Kanike at the Brahmagiri Peak.
Honnamana Kere - Honnamana Kere is the biggest lake in Coorg. It has spiritual significance. It was named after Goddess Honnamana and there is a temple dedicated to Goddess. The Lake is surrounded by hills, man made caves and coffee plantations. Many visitors and tourists come to this place during Gowri festival.
Namdroling Monastery -It is situated just 6 kms from kushalnagar and around 35 kms from Madikeri. The temple is termed golden because golden work is done in every painting. The monastery is presided by 18m high gold plated Buddha.
St Anne's Church - This church was built in 1792 in Gothic architectural style. It has a good design and nice beauty of the art.
Waterfalls
Iruppu Falls - It has a fresh water located in Brahmagiri mountain range. This is also known as Lakshamana Teertha falls. It attracts many tourists here because of its natural beauty.
Mallalli Falls - It is situated in the foothills of pushpagiri which is around 25 kms from somwarpet. This waterfall flows down from a height of around 1,027 m and is one the most beautiful waterfalls in Coorg.
Other Nice Attractions
Talacauvery - Talacauvery is the source of river Kaveri located on the Brahmagiri hill and is located around 1,276 m above sea level. At Talacauvery, there is a square tank called cauvery kundike which is considered to be the birth place of river cauvery. It is a holy place to bathe on special days.
Cauvery Nisargadhama - It is 3 kms from Kushalnagar, 7 kms from Bylakuppe and 12 kms from Dubare Elephant camp. It is a major picnic spot for people of Coorg. Cauvery Nisargadhama is an island formed by river cauvery in kodugu district of karnataka. It is filled with bamboo, sandalwood and teak trees. It has deer park, rabbit park and peacock park. It is a nice sight seeing for parrots, bee eaters, woodpeckers and butterflies. Elephant rides and boating are major attractions here. October to April is the best time to visit.
Dubare Elephant Camp - It is at a distance of 15 kms from Kushalnagar and 29 kms from Madikeri. It is an Elephant training center situated on the banks of river cauvery in kodagu district. This is one of the most attracting tourist spot in Coorg. The elephants used for Mysore Dussehra are trained here at this camp. Visitors can also feed the elephants with Ragi, jaggery, sugarcane, coconuts and banana.
There are opportunities for elephant ride, coracle ride, fishing, bird watching and river rafting. River rafting is the most attracting thing that can be done in Dubare.
Raja's Seat - It is at a distance of 1.5 kms from Madikeri Bus stand. This is one of the most attracting tourist places and also a famous sunset point in Madikeri.
Madikeri Fort - It is at around 1 km from Madikeri Bus stand. It is the historical fort situated in madikeri town. It is one of the most famous tourist destination.
Nagarhole National Park - It is at a distance of 20 kms from Iruppu falls, 62 kms from kalpetta, 88 kms from Madikeri. It is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in South India. It is also known as Rajiv Gandhi National park and is spread across Mysore and Kodugu district of Karnataka.

By Air - The nearest domestic airport is Mangalore Airport which is about 160 kms away.By Train - The nearest Railway station is Mysore which is around 95 kms away.
By Bus - There are high number of K.S.R.T.C deluxe buses which runs daily from Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore.
