Beautiful Hill Station and Amazing sightseeing to visit in Kodaikanal


Kodaikanal is a famous tourist destination in South India. It is located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. It is a beautiful hill station having dense forests with many varieties of trees, amazing waterfalls and huge rocks. It is at a height of about 7000 ft from sea level.

Kodaikanal is a great place to visit for family trips, honeymoons, adventures and for those who are always eager to explore new places. Kodai town is famous for its natural beauty of the hills and lakes and for its pleasant weather. It is also a great place for trekking, sight seeing, horse ridding and cycling around the lake.

Best time to visit is from April to June and from Sept to October.

Places to visit in Kodaikanal


Kodai Lake - It is at a distance of around 2kms from Kodai bus stand. This is a man made lake in the Kodaikanal city and is the famous landmark of the city. The lake is surrounded by beautiful valleys, boat club and building from colonial periods. Row boats and pedal boats can be hired at the boat club. You can also enjoy cycling and horse riding around the lake. There are lots of shops and eateries around the lake. Boat club timing - 9am to 5.30 pm.

Coakers Walk - It is about half kms from Kodai and is constructed on the steep slope of Mountain. You must watch telescope house here. It is a pedestrial walk where you can enjoy the beauty of nature like mountains, valleys, cities etc. The walk and sight is very interesting when the day is clear and cloudless. Best time to visit is after 2pm.

Bear shola falls - It is at a distance of 3kms from Kodaikanal bus stand. It is a tall water fall in the forest. The water falls are called so because it is said that bears used to drink water at top of the falls. Best time to visit is in the months of Sept and Oct.

Bryant Park - It is at a distance of around 1km from Kodaikanal bus stand. It is a beautiful and well maintained garden along the Kodai lake. It is one of the top tourist places in Kodaikanal. The park is full of trees, shrubs, cactuses and lots of beautiful flowers. A big section is dedicated to huge varieties of roses. You can also find children play area in the park. The park also has a small lake filled with water plant. Timing 9am to 6pm.

Silver Cascade - It is around 8kms from Kodaikanal bus stand. This water fall is closed to the main road. This waterfall is having a nice view of the falls and surroundings. Monsoons and winters can be a good time to visit the waterfalls.

Kurunji Temple - It is 3kms from the lake and is dedicated to lord Murugu referred as lord of Hill. The temple premises also includes a park under small shrub area. The temple is famous for its Kurunji flower which blossoms only once in every 12 years.

Pillar Rocks - It is around 7kms from Kodaikanal bus stand. Pillar rock is a set of 3 giant rock pillars which stand 400 ft high from the ground. It is also having beautiful mini gardens. An important attraction is devil's kitchen which is the space between the 2 rocks.

Dolphin's Nose - This is popular amongst forest explorers and trekkers. Here you can experience the best views of the forest and cloud. Dolphin's nose is a natures wonder that features a flat rock extending out above a height of around 6600 ft.

you can also enjoy more places like a Kodai palani trek, Thalaiyar falls, Berijam lake, Silent valley view, Kodaikanal solar observatory, Subramanya Temple (Kartikeya Temple), Pumbar falls, Shenbaganur Museum.

By Bus - Kodaikanal bus station is connected to most of the major cities.
By Train - Nearest Railway station are Palani railway station (66 kms) and Kodai road station (79 kms).
By Air - Nearest Airport is Madurai Airport which is 128 kms from Kodaikanal.
