Lord Ganesha's favourite Modak - An easy way to prepare


Ganesh Chaturthi is an important festival which is celebrated all over the world. The favourite offering in this festival is Lord Ganesha's favourite Modak. It is a dumpling made of rice flour, coconut and jaggery. It is a soft and sweet dessert famous all over India especially in Maharashtra.
In Ganesh festival everybody prepares boondi laddu, coconut laddu, gujia , besan laddu and modak.

Modak are of various types like mava modak, chocolate modak, dry fruits modak, coconut modak, rava modak, fried modak etc but the most basic modak is steamed modak also known as Ukadiche Modak. We will see the recipe of Ukadiche Modak.

How to prepare Modak

Ingredients

  • Rice Flour - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - 2 cups
  • Grated Jaggery (Gud) - 1 cup
  • Green Cardamom (crushed) -  3
  • Ghee
  • Salt a pinch

Procedure

  • Take a pan and add ghee to it, then add grated coconut and mix.
  • When coconut starts changing colour add jaggery to it.
  • After jaggery gets mixed properly add cardamom powder and mix.
  • Take the mixture in a bowl and let it cool.
  • Take water in a pan, add salt and 1 tsp ghee and let it boil.
  • Add rice flour , switch of the gas and mix properly.
  • Let the mixture cool down a little. 
  • Knead it properly and make small balls of it.
  • Make bowl shape of each ball and keep the jaggery -coconut filling in the center.
  • In the outer side, pinch the dough to make pleats at a distance of half inch.
  • Now bring all the pleats together and join them sealing it properly.
  • Steam the modak in a steamer for 20 min and serve.
