Lord Shiva or Mahadev is lord of Moksha. Shiva is the destroyer and transformer along with Lord Brahma and Vishnu.
The attributes of Shiva are the serpent around his neck, the adorning crescent moon, the holy river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, the third eye on this forehead, the trishula as his weapon and the damaru. He is worshipped usually in the form of Lingam.
Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Lingam. There are 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Jyotirlinga is a devotional object representing the Supreme God Shiva. Jyoti means 'radiance' and lingam the 'image or sign' of Shiva; Jyotir Lingam thus means the Radiant sign of the Almighty Shiva.

Somnath is first among the twelve jyotirlingas of India. The Somnath temple is located in Prabhas Patan near veraval in Gujarat. It is an important pilgrimage and tourist spot of Gujarat. Destroyed and reconstructed several times in the past.
According to tradition, the Shivalinga in Somnath is one of the twelve jyotirlingas in India where Shiva is believed to have appeared as a fiery column of light. The jyotirlingas are taken as the supreme, undivided reality out of which Shiva partly appears.
Sri Mallikarjuna Temple is dedicated to the deities Shiva and Parvati, located at Srisailam. Mallikarjun Temple is situated on Shri Shaila Mountain on the banks of Patal Ganga, Krishna River in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
Mallika means Parvati while Arjuna is another name of Shiva. Shiva and Parvati came to reside in this linga. It is said that by merely seeing the tip of mountain one is emancipated from all his sins and worries. The person becomes free from the vicious cycle of life and death.
Mahakaleshwar is located in the ancient city of Ujjain in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Lord Shiva had killed a demon here named 'Tripur'. Bhimashankar temple is a jyotirlinga shrine located 50 kms north west of khed near Pune, Maharashtra and situated in the Sahyadri hills. Bhimashankar is also the source of the river Bhima, which flows southeast and merges with the krishna river near Raichur. The temple is very old and surrounded by a scenic nature with green forest. In this temple, Lord is shown in Ardha Narishwara form propagating the phenomenon of equilibrium in life.

Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open only between the end of April (Akshaya tritiya) to Kartik Purnima (The Autumn Full moon, Usually November). The temple is not directly accessible by road and has to be reached by a 18 kms uphill track from Gourikund. The temple was built by Pandavas and was revived by Adi Sankaracharya. The temple is one of the four major sites in Char Dham.
Grishneshwar temple is sometimes referred as the Ghrneshwar jyotirlinga. The word Ghrneshwar means "lord of Compassion". This Jyotirlinga is in Maharashtra near the Ajanta Ellora caves near Aurangabad. The temple is situated at a place called Ilapur. The temple premises is very spacious and surrounded by a large wall on all the 4 sides. The jyotirlinga and the Goddess, Grishneshwari , both are seen inside the garbha graham. Lot of art work can be seen on the wall.
